National Taiwan University Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures | Gaby Lin
"Why is your English so good?" In response to this question, Gaby always smiles and answers, "It's a mystery! I think I only started to ‘get it’ in middle school." This student, who has attended Wagor from kindergarten, scored a perfect 990 on the TOEIC exam in ninth grade, earning the prestigious "Gold Certificate," which caused a sensation throughout the school. What's even more surprising is that he had never studied abroad; instead, through Wagor's bilingual environment and his own efforts, he gradually built a strong foundation in English.
Reflecting on his learning journey, Gaby admits that his English grades were not particularly outstanding in elementary school. However, in middle school, it was as if he had discovered the secret to language learning. By high school, he had participated in many school English competitions, and naturally became accustomed to using English to search for all kinds of information—ranging from sports events to game strategies, and even computer assembly. English had become his essential tool for exploring the world. In his free time, he dedicated himself to his passion for frisbee for six years. Not only did he serve as the captain of the school's frisbee team, but he also led the team to win third place in the National Youth Frisbee Championship for two consecutive years.
When it came to choosing a university, he bravely embarked on the Star Program recommendation process. Although his academic performance was not then at the top of the class, after personalized guidance from the school and discussions with teachers and mentors, he decided to "take a bold leap" and set his sights on the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at NTU. Now, having secured his spot at NTU, he has already planned to apply for a double major in the business school, aiming to combine language skills with business expertise and move towards his goal of a career in international business.
Gaby has successfully formulated a clear and ambitious plan for his future and demonstrated his willingness and courage to take on personal challenges. His journey also reflects how Wagor's bilingual education has helped students flourish, leading them to create their own brilliant futures.
