Taiwan’s Pride! Wagor has placed in the Top Three in the Global Youth Challenge (GYC) for Two Consecutive Years

Congratulations to Misha from G11 for proudly representing Taiwan and securing the third place globally at the 2025 Global Youth Challenge (GYC) Finals for the second consecutive year! Once again, Wagor shines on the world stage, dazzling the international community! Special thanks to Teacher Barbara for her dedicated guidance and ESL teacher Libby for her assistance.

The Global Youth Challenge (GYC) brings together outstanding young talents from around the world. The competition requires participants to write a paper in fluent English and record a 3-4 minute English speech video. The presentations are judged by international scholars and experts, assessing the contestants’ critical thinking, communication skills, and global perspective. This year’s theme was “AI and Sustainability”, where participants were tasked to propose innovative solutions to global sustainability issues through the lens of AI technology.

Misha chose the topic “AI and Climate Science”, exploring how AI can enhance the accuracy of meteorological science and improve predictions and responses to extreme weather events. In her speech, she mentioned that Taiwan experienced three severe typhoons in 2024, including Super Typhoon Gaemi, which was the first to use AI predictions. Systems such as Nvidia FourCastNet, Google GraphCast, and Huawei Pangu-Weather successfully predicted Gaemi’s landfall 8 days in advance, accurately forecasting its unusual looping path and 1.8-meter rainfall, allowing the government to issue timely warnings and reduce disaster losses.

Remarkably, Misha was in the United States handling family matters during the competition. Despite her hectic schedule and time zone differences, she seized every opportunity to prepare, waking up at dawn to ensure her best performance during the live-streamed final where she presented again and ably responded to the judge’s questions.

Among top competitors from around the globe, Misha stood out with her precise arguments, fluent English delivery, and impressive stage presence. Ultimately, she clinched the third place globally for the second year in a row, once again showcasing Taiwan’s brilliance to the world. The entire Wagor community is immensely proud of her!
