National Chengchi University Department of Finance | Rebecca Lin

Whenever faced with challenges, Rebecca Lin often silently repeats to herself: “Because you are Rebecca Lin, you can definitely do it.” While this mantra might sound pressure-filled, more often it serves as the driving force that pushes her to persevere. Outgoing and optimistic, Rebecca holds herself to high standards and believes in studying smart as well as studying hard: “It’s not about who studies the longest, but who studies the right way.” From having average grades in her first year of high school, she gradually paved her own path, eventually earning admission to the Department of Finance at National Chengchi University.

Originally planning to attend Taichung Second Senior High School, Rebecca was drawn to the scholarship opportunities and the advantages of the "Star Program" at Wagor High School, and chose to continue her studies there instead. Upon entering high school, she discovered that two-thirds of her classmates were familiar faces, which, along with a supportive environment and teachers, helped her feel at ease and confident.

When deciding on her college choices, Rebecca used a process of elimination—removing majors she had no interest in or whose career prospects didn’t align with her goals—ultimately narrowing it down to the field of business and management. After careful consideration of her strengths and aspirations, she chose to pursue Finance, with the ambition of becoming a practical, hands-on financial analyst or consultant.

Looking back on her academic journey, Rebecca expresses deep gratitude for the support and guidance from all her subject teachers. She recalls a touching moment when she messaged her math teacher late at night with a question—and received a reply almost immediately. That gesture left a lasting impression on her.

To her juniors, she offers these words of encouragement: “Hard work doesn’t always guarantee success, but success always requires hard work and working smartly.” She reminds them not to be defeated by temporary setbacks or discouraged by a slower pace. As long as you keep going, you’ll bloom in your own time zone. Trust in time and effort—your future self will thank you for not giving up today.
