Admission to National Taiwan University – Erica Hsu
I chose to study at Wagor High School primarily because of its excellent environment, abundant extracurricular activities, and learning resources. Most importantly, I aimed to seize the opportunity to strive for excellence.
During the exam preparation process, I summarized and organized the course content in a way that made learning enjoyable for me. For example, I regarded Chinese literature study as reading novels, and I approached essay writing as creative writing. As for English, I listened to English songs and watched foreign TV series or dramas, all of which significantly improved my language skills. Mathematics was comparatively challenging for me, so I spent more time practicing and getting familiar with different question types. By staying up to date on current affairs both domestically and internationally, I was able to increase my knowledge of social sciences and the humanities.
In terms of study planning from the first through third years of high school, I followed the pace set by my teachers in the first and second years while working to stay on top of the school's regular assessments. In the spring semester of the second year, I attended evening courses for comprehensive review. I used an iPad to create thorough review notes and intensified my practice in order to become better adapted to a high-performance environment (e.g., frequently practicing difficult questions or compressing response time). In the third year, my focus was on full-scale review and the final push to the exam. When the academic pressure became overwhelming, I would relieve stress by watching detective programs, playing detective games on TV, or reading detective novels. This not only helped me relax but also trained my logical thinking abilities and heightened my sensitivity to written language.
I have chosen to study sociology at National Taiwan University not only because I have met the academic requirements, but also because it aligns with my personal interests. I have always been fascinated by the social, political, economic, and legal aspects of civic education. In the future, I may consider pursuing a career related to communication or law.
Wagor has provided me with a stage to showcase my abilities. In addition to my passion for learning, I also have a keen interest in dance. Therefore, I served as the president of the school's dance club and participated in various performances both within and outside the school. At the same time, as my language skills improved, I found my enthusiasm for English reignited. I have progressed from being reluctant to converse with foreign teachers, and although not as fluent as my bilingual classmates, today I have no problem with daily communication. If given the chance to do it again, I would still choose to enter Wagor High School without hesitation. I am grateful for the resources and well-established pathways to higher education provided by the school, which have helped me achieve my goals.
Lastly, I would like to say to my juniors, "The future belongs to you, and only you know best how to navigate it. Don't regret the decisions you make. However, if you want to excel, you must put in more effort and make sacrifices. Successful people do not achieve greatness without hardship."
