The Journey of Growth at Wagor International School: Reflections and Insights
During my years at Wagor, I have stretched beyond whom I was when I first arrived. I got a better grasp of things, new friendships have been formed, and I started on my journey through school. Looking back on it, I had it really easy at the beginning, but things became more and more complicated as I grew. Yet somehow, at such a young age, I adapted to these changes and started taking on more responsibilities.
Wagor has bestowed numerous skills on me. For example, problem solving, critical thinking, and the will to always go above and beyond. Without these skills I would have struggled a lot going forth. These years in Wagor have been very important for me, because I grew a lot as a person and really came out of my shell during this time. If I were to tell my past self that I’d be writing an annual, I would have had a heart attack. We’re going to face challenges that we have never met before, but we can adapt to this in a blink of an eye because we’ve conquered procrastination, stage fright, self-discipline, and countless other beasts in our time here at Wagor. Wagor has given us the courage to face difficult challenges and decisions head on.
Throughout the years at Wagor, I’ve gotten to know my brethren better, so friendships have become stable, and we can actually rely on each other. We’ve solved problems and it was smooth sailing, but nothing can stay forever. Eventually we will move on. It will be like being bumped back to the beginning. New teachers, new people, new school. I have some great memories from my years at Wagor, like cycling around Taiwan with my friends, participating in speech contests for 6 years, swimming across Sun-Moon Lake with my classmate, going surfing with my best friend etc.
During my years at Wagor, my English has improved rapidly. I have changed from a little child who was unfamiliar with English into a teenager who now enjoys the fun in learning it. Starting third grade, I became addicted to reading English novels. I loved English novels and Wagor provided an abundant amount of English books in its library. My English has advanced not only because of all the English classes that are given to me, but also reading English novels has played a main role in helping me improve my English skills.
After being fully immersed in learning English, I found out that learning English can provide you with more opportunities than other languages can. For example, I was the valedictorian at Wagor’s elementary graduation ceremony and host of Wagor’s junior high graduation ceremony. I also had more chances to take part in competitions. For instance, I have participated in English writing contests, speech contests, and VQC. Thanks to Wagor’s training I can now easily pass English verifications like TOEIC, GEPT, TOFEL etc.
Finally, thank you to all my friends and teachers who have helped me and stayed by my side, no matter what I was going through. I’d like to leave you with a quote from Mark Twain.” Twenty years from now, you’ll be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than the ones you did do. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade wind in your sails. Explore, dream, discover.”
