閱讀書目 Book Title:

Who was Helen Keller

閱讀心得Book Review:

Who was Helen Keller

Helen Keller was born in 1880 with the ability to see and hear. Unfortunately, she contracted a serious illness which left her both deaf and blind. At the beginning she felt hopeless due to this serious disease, destroying her mind and body. Then, she became eccentric, and treated other people so mean. Considering herself useless, the situation was getting worse and worse. Keller’s parents were very worried about it so that they found a teacher, Anne Sullivan for help. With this critical help, Keller’s life and mind were significantly changed. For instance, Helen’s mind was turned to be more positive; she started to learn how to make her life better. Significantly, the teacher taught her how to read and write, telling her not to look down herself. Everyone is unique, not to depreciate yourself. She told Helen that there is still a hope in this world although she became a deaf-mute person. In particular, God never shuts one door without opening a bigger better door.

Compared with common people, Helen Keller has become an outstanding American author in the history. Overview of his life, there are some differences between Helen and other people. For example, Helen is deaf-mute; however, she learned to read and write as common people. Another example is about learning and life attitude. Helen is very active with positive and optimistic life although she caught a terrible illness. She is willing to try new things, for example, she learned to read and write with difficulty because she needed to use the special way that deaf-mute people learn, such as Braille. Anne needed to repeat and repeat so that Helen can remember. To be compared, common people are usually passive and they may be not brave enough. For example, if they think they can’t finish it, they won’t try even they may give up. For instance, students think the test is difficult, so they would rather guess the answer than study hard. Third, to be a famous author, Keller spent much time on reading and writing. In the process of learning, Helen not only studied hard but also trained herself hard. The above three examples show the evidence that Helen Keller can be successful in the American history.

After reading this book, it really goes into the heart of my mind. How a person who loses her sight and voice learns to live and communicate with other people. She entered a silent world until she met a good teacher, Anne Sullivan. This crucial meet significantly brought hope to Helen in her life. In the process of learning to live, Helen suffered a lot of pains and fell down many times; however, “God never closes a door without opening a window.” Helen faced the difficulty and solved it. Nowadays, normal people usually think the disabled people who are hardly to take care of themselves; nevertheless, they are willing to persuade their dreams. No matter what difficulty they face, they should try to find the exit of life, having passions during the life as well. Helen’s story lights up disabled people’s life and makes them believe there is always a hope in this world. To pursue better life, it is important to cherish the moment we own. With this in mind, we will realize the spirit of Helen is helpful in learning. Therefore, being optimistic all the time, looking the bright side, and being active make life better. Because of Helen’s willpower, everything can be overcome.Helen’s persistent spirit is deserved to our respect.
