Before departure, there were concerns that typhoon might interfere with our long-anticipated journey with constant rain. But surprisingly, Wagor students turned out to be like little sunshine charms. Wherever we went, the skies were clear and beautiful. We were incredibly lucky!
Even more amazing was the fact that the World Expo, held only once every five years, happened to take place in Japan this year. We got to experience the creativity and culture from countries all over the world. Our homestay experiences gave us a deep and personal glimpse of Japanese family life. Some of us stayed in 900-year-old traditional houses. Others learned to cook homemade meals with our host moms. A few of us visited family-owned tatami factories. Some even went fishing, caught fireflies, walked dogs, or took goats for a stroll. These were unforgettable life experiences we could never get from a textbook.
Our Kansai journey took us through Japan’s rich history and vibrant modern life, from the ancient capitals of Kyoto and Uji to the energetic city of Osaka. During the six-day trip, we visited famous sites like Kiyomizu-dera, Sannenzaka, and Byodo-in, where we felt surrounded by beauty and spiritual tradition. We can still taste the rich flavor of the matcha we hand-whisked ourselves. In Shinsaibashi and Dotonbori, we worked together to read maps and plan our walking routes, and we even managed to take a group photo with the famous Glico running man. The next day, we spent an entire day at Universal Studios Japan, having the time of our lives and making joyful memories. On our last day before returning to Taiwan, we climbed to the top of a castle tower for a panoramic view of the city. Beneath our feet was a time capsule, filled with hopes for the future—a quiet and meaningful goodbye to Japan.
Through this journey, Wagor students explored the world with their eyes and embraced the unknown with open hearts. With every laugh and heartfelt moment, they expanded their global perspective. Each independent step they took felt real, grounded, and unforgettable.
